Development of the river bank

Accès voguéo au pied de Docks en Seine

Marked historically by the presence of the Magasins Généraux, the Austerlitz port constitutes a surface area of 3.5 hectares of quays running from the Bercy bridge upstream to the Austerlitz bridge. In order to host Docks en Seine, the Autonomous Port of Paris has provided for various improvements:

- On the water front, 2 passenger stations were built in 2008

  1. One station for the Voguéo passenger river transport line ; the line serves five stations – Gare d’Austerlitz, Bibliothèque François Mitterrand (outbound travel), Bercy (return travel), Ivry Pont Mandela and Ecole vétérinaire de Maisons-Alfort. In time the line is to be extended through to the Concorde bridge. One can pay with the Navigo public transport card. Truly a Parisian revolution!

  2. A docking station for cruise boats as well as for Batobus, which is to extend its line from Jardin des Plantes to Docks en Seine.

The project also includes attractive services in the area, with barges moored along the quay to offer food and cultural or leisure events.

- On the quay, a pedestrian promenade is to be developed along the water front from the Austerlitz bridge to the Bercy bridge. A river front open area on the west side of Docks en Seine will also be developed.

For the sake of historical continuity, the Austerlitz port will preserve its economic and port identity through :
- the creation of a transit quay available as a public port for occasional loading and unloading of goods ;
- the rehabilitation of the port building heritage, including renovation of the Batellerie building, of pavilions 1 and 2 of the Magasins Généraux, and of the Customs building.

Works to complete the entire project will run from 2010 through 2013.
